The New Haven Parking Authority just announced the much-anticipated return of bike share to New Haven, in partnership with Drop Mobility. Residents and visitors alike can once again enjoy the convenience and benefits of bike sharing.
As of August 29th, 2024 at 5:00 PM, the bikes are available to the community. The system is composed of a fleet of 100 brand-new Drop electric bikes, complemented by 100 pedal bikes from the previous system, which will roll out in the coming weeks. Combined, these 200 bikes are a sustainable, healthy, affordable, and convenient mobility option. The program will be operated and maintained by the Devil’s Gear Bike Shop.
In honor of the program launch, special pre-sale pricing includes an annual membership of $99 for an entire year, providing one hour of free ride time per day. For more information about the program, pricing, and membership visit www.ridenewhaven.com. This pricing expires at the end of September. There is also a low-income equity membership level at $4 per month.
A launch event will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd at 1:00 pm at FAME Academy to celebrate the return of the bike share. We invite the community to join us at this celebration with Mayor Elicker, local leaders, and your neighbors. We will be offering discounted memberships, giving away free helmets, and providing exciting swag. Attendees can also participate in e-bike share demos and much more.
The New Haven Coalition for Active Transportation (NCAT) will be holding free e-bike share based learn to ride classes for adults starting in September. The first 50 low-income New Haven residents completing a bike share based learn to ride or safe cycling class will qualify for one year of membership. You can find near term classes here and plan for future classes using the NCAT Calendar. All NCAT classes require registration - Registration Form Link.
Bike Share Leaders - New Haven residents that have taken classes with the New Haven Coalition for Active Transportation will be invited to apply to become Bike Share Leaders. Bike Share Leaders will receive paid training and assist NCAT League Cycling Instructors at classes and community events. Three Bike Share Leaders will be invited (with a scholarship) to complete the intensive League Cycling Instructor certification seminar in April 2025, opening the way to more paid work as a bicycle educator.
We are tremendously excited to welcome bike share, now with e-bikes, back to New Haven and our communities. If you would like to get NCAT monthly e-newsletters, including Ride New Haven announcements, you can subscribe here.
